After you bought your racket on some amazing badminton shop, now it’s time to string it. One of the priorities in playing badminton if that your racket fits your fire power and by maximizing your fire power you need to have the perfect string tension. The string tension in a badminton racket plays a major role in the ability of the player to hit a shot well because if strings are too slack and your performance will drop below optimum.

It is vitally important to not only get the perfect strings for your racket but also your ability level. So here are some of the facts and tips on what string tension you should use.

Beginners/Intermediates – 16-22lbs

If we are talking about the stringing, the words that always come up is the sweet spot it is the part of the string bed that produces the best result from contract with a shuttle.

Let’s put it in simple ways like the lower the tension of a rackets strings, the larger the sweet spot, so saying this it will increase the likelihood of the amateur player hitting a good shot because the strings are able to absorb and repel the shuttle better.

And being a beginner or an inexperience player is likely no developed yet a good wrist action which would make it considerably harder to use a high tension racket. It is advised that all beginners and intermediates use a racket with low tension strings, before gradually increasing by 1lb increments as they master the different shot techniques and start to develop a strong wrist action.

Club/Country Players – 21-27lbs

When you are in this level of play you are to make less hitting errors and because of that you don’t need a large sweet spot, the players of a higher levels are expected to have the consistency in hitting the shuttle on a smaller sweet spot.

The higher the tension of a racket produces a different feel for the players and allow them to hit the shuttle harder. A strong wrist action is developed and together with a big swing, enables more speed and power in the shot.

The players on this level are mostly expected to have a higher control level of their racket and they can surely play their shot with increased accuracy and feel.

For Elite Players – 28lbs++

The players at this elite levels have the best control of their shots and can play with unbelievable increased accuracy and therefore can play with incredibly high tension strings.

The trainings and competition are your home now and you have a lot of experience playing badminton, and most of the players at this level go through several rackets at each tournament.
At the elite level of play, the stringing needs to be extremely accurate and consistent as players at this level are highly sensitive to even see and feel the differences in tension, which can therefore affect their play performance.

So be sure to know where do you fall on the levels of play and match your string tension to maximize your skillset and ability to Dominate The Game. But most importantly do not forget to practice harder and improve yourself so that even if tension affects that play it will really not matter because you are a complete player you can adjust on anything on an incredible pace.

Choose your string tension wisely!
