The Men’s doubles pair that was one of the favorites to take
home their very first badminton title came short on their stint in the
tournament.
The Malaysian Boon Heong teamed up with the former World and
Olympic champion Hendra of Indonesia in January to make a dominant pair for the
Australian Open, but the high profile pair came short as the pair were beaten
by the World No. 5 Takeshi Kamura-Keigo Sonoda of Japan in the final of
Australian Open in Sydney on Sunday.
Kamura-Sonoda’s win has made them ensured that Japan emerged
as the biggest winners in Australia. The ninja has prevailed and slashed their
opponents in this tournament.
The World ranked No. 30 Boon Heong-Hendra, who were making
their first final appearance after 12 tournaments, ran out of steam as the
energetic Japanese pair romped to a 21-17, 21-19 win in 37 minutes.
But speaking of the biggest wins in the Australia Open
tournament the India’s K. Srikanth scored the biggest win of the day – beating
Olympic gold medalist Chen Long for the first time in his career – to clinch
the men’s singles crown. The Malaysian hero Lee Chong Wei also came short in
this tournament as he was beaten on the earlier rounds.
Olympic gold medalists Misaki Matsutomo-Ayaka Takahashi
claimed the women’s doubles title after thrashing Danes Kamilla Rytter
Juhl-Christinna Pedersen 21-10-, 21-13 while Nozomi Okuhara won the women’s
crown after beating compatriot Akane Yamaguchi 21-12, 21-23, 21-17.
Also World No. 11 Srikanth who won the Indonesian Open last
week defeated world No. 6 Chen Long 22-20, 21-16 in a 46 minutes nerve racking
badminton match.
