Let’s Crown the New Badminton King and Queen

Shuttler Kidambi Srikanth of India has claimed his first ever Indonesia Open Super series crown after defeating the Japanese qualifier Kazumasa Saki in an impressive and overwhelming win.

“It’s been a long time since I’ve won a super series as I was actually injured after the Olympics,” Srikanth told journalists after the game in Jakarta.

The World ranked No. 22 Srikanth who clinched a spot in the final rounds after scoring a victory against the World No. 1 Son Wan Ho of South Korea a day earlier only needed 37 minutes to overpower and dominate the game over Sakai in two straight sets with 12-11, 12-19.

The great Sakai who ranked 47th managed to take back control at the beginning of the second game and was leading by 11-6 but Srikanth quickly caught up and ended his stint in the tournament in a glorious victory.

Srikanth can very well remember the nightmare of the Singapore Open. He said, “It’s definitely much needed for me after losing the final in the Singapore Open.” Now he has really redeemed himself as he take home the Indonesia Open title.

The 24-year old reached the finals of the Singapore Open but had to bow down to his fellow Indian shuttler Sai Pranneth.

His Indonesia Open title really proves that he is a real deal and that he belongs to the great ones on the badminton court and he is really a King that will be in the badminton tournaments for the years to come.

A new Queen has also emerged in the women’s single, Sakai’s compatriot Sayaka Sato won her first ever singles title in a Badminton World Federation Super Series event after defeating the World’s No.5, Sung Ji-Hyun of South Korea by 21-13, 17-21, 21-19.

Sato saw a sign in her opponent that she take advantage of. “After the second game, I saw my opponent’s face was quite tense… that’s when I started to earn point by point,” Sato said.

Sato is considered as the underdog in the tournament but a royalty in the game will surely takes their rightful places and she responded to the occasion as she takes the crown that she deserves.

Sato is definitely a new shuttler to watch for in the coming years, because sky is the limit for her with her talent, passion, attitude, and skill set we don’t know how far can she goes!
